A whole day without media or gadgets that didn't exist before 1984.

a normal Thursday morning I would check my phone for the time and to see if anyone has tried to reach me. I made this day very different I woke up without checking my phone instead i just asked my sister what time it was and from there i got ready for the day at my aunts house in Bay area. I choice to make thanksgiving my day of no media because i knew there would be lots of people around to talk to and it was a good day to think about why i am thankful for my phone and Ipod and whatever else that goes under that category. After taking a shower and getting dress I joined my aunt and grandma in the kitchen to help them set up and cook for thanksgiving dinner. when people started to arrive I would greet them and talk for awhile. since I see them maybe 3 times a year it can be awkward, what was hard for me this day without my phone is usually if things got awkward or quite i could just look down at my phone and go on facebook or something. This made me have to come up with things to say. I had my little cousins around so it was really fun playing with them and stuff that part was so easy and entertaining because they can keep you entertained for hours plus i don't like having my phone around little kids because they always take it from me and then its lost and i have to go find it.. The hardest part was not having my phone or Facebook all day. TV and computer are pretty easy for me to not have unless there is a show on that night but it was thanksgiving so TV didn't even cross my mind.

communication was really easy for me on this day because everyone I needed to talk to was all with me except friends I really wanted to text some people happy thanksgiving but I refrained from doing so. that was pretty hard and I felt a little bad.

I was surprised by one thing and that is i use my phone as comfort tool. Its like I need it. It also helps me feel less awkward in awkward situations. That was one thing about this day that i found interesting and surprising.

articles

fields of poison
1.
1. Write a short reflection on each of your readings.

this article talks about the farm workers and the people that are around the chemicals and pesticides used in crops getting really sick. symptoms range from nausea, dizziness, numbness to death and cancer. it talks about it being air born. it also talks about how California is trying to do better because of articles on this topic. something interesting i found is how even though they have laws they are never really enforced the commissioners only issue a few fines and that is just to show they are "doing something".

2. If you were going dedicate your energies to champion one of the issues in any of the writings, which would you choose and why? In your opinion, what is it about your particular choice that ranks it above all others?
I think i would choose the topic of the workers and the sickness that have been caused by these chemicals i would focus on alternatives and the working laws to champion. i would also make sure that i tie everything back to how this effects everyone and not just the people working.

the financial crisis and world hunger
1. Write a short reflection on each of your readings.
this one is talking about micro loans and a man who started them and how they have helped many people to better there lives. it talks about exploring options for energy sources that are environmentally friendly . it talks about restrictions and distortion have been left in place have devastating consequences for poor nations.

i would choose to learn more about micro loans i think this is a great idea and even though it may be hard for america to keep track of micro loans i think they would benefit alot of people. i also look at it as if you don't need that much money say you need 5,000 dollars and they say they can only loan you 15,000 it will be hard for someone to pay back this to me leads to the fall of an economy because banks give out to big of loans that people cant pay back so maybe if we had smaller loans we could satisfy the people and keep the economy strong. this is what i would spend my energy on.

the scope of the world food crisis
1. Write a short reflection on each of your readings.
this was about food prices going up for crops like soybeans, rice, wheat, and corn because of oil prices going up. some countries are experiencing starvation where food is being made there but is being distributed out because they cant eat that and it cost more for them.
